How It Works
On classifieds platforms like OLX or Quikr, a "buyer" expresses interest in your item and claims to have already made a payment, sending a fake payment screenshot or fake "PayPal/UPI hold" notification. They pressure you to ship or hand over the item immediately, before you've actually verified the money landed in your account.
Real Example
A seller lists a phone on OLX. The "buyer" sends a screenshot of a UPI payment confirmation and says it's "on hold pending pickup confirmation" — pressuring the seller to courier it immediately, before any money ever arrives.
Red Flags 🚩
- Buyer claims payment is already done but you see no actual bank credit
- Pressure to ship or hand over goods before money is confirmed
- Fake-looking screenshots of payment confirmation
- Buyer avoids meeting in person, insists on courier only
Protection Steps 🛡️
- Always confirm money has actually landed in your account before shipping anything.
- Don't trust payment screenshots — they can be faked easily.
- Prefer in-person, cash-based transactions for local classifieds sales.
- Be suspicious of any "payment on hold" or "pending verification" claims.
